What does a Dry Eye Consultation at Avant Eyes Advanced Dry Eye Center entail?

The first step in your dry eye journey is already complete: seeking help! Dr Kataria OD FAAO is a nationally recognized expert in the dry eye space, lecturing and teaching other optometrists and ophthalmologists in the field. Our Advanced Dry Eye Center is equipped with the latest and modern technology to diagnose and treat your dry eyes.

Is the visit covered by medical insurance?

If you have a medical plan, we can bill your consultation and imaging. Consultation fees are subject to your copay, coinsurance and deductible based on the contract you signed with your insurance plan. It is always a good idea to know if you have met your deductible prior to your visit.

Can I use my VSP/EyeMed vision plan for a dry eye consultation?

No. Dry eye consultations are not covered by your vision discount plan (i.e VSP, EyeMed). These types of plans are only used towards a routine eye exam and glasses/contact lenses. They do not have benefits that cover medical evaluations or treatments.

What can I expect during my consultation?

Our experienced dry eye doctors need to understand the type of dry eye disease and contributing factors. Imaging includes an infrared image of your meibomian glands and vital dye staining with anterior segment imaging. This is an initial workup that is necessary to diagnose the type and severity of your dry eyes. After that, diagnostic testing and imaging is assessed case-by-case.

Are the advanced dry eye treatments you offer covered by my medical insurance plan?

Some treatments can be applied to your medical plan; most are not but HSA/FSA funds can be applied. When your medical plan is involved, any consult, treatment or procedure is applied to your deductible.

Why is FDA approved technology important?

Research! Data! The doctors at Avant Eyes Advanced Dry Eye Center are dedicated to results, research, efficacy and safety. The US FDA approves certain technologies for the treatment of dry eye disease. OptiLight IPL is the only FDA approved IPL technology that is indicated in the treatment of dry eye disease. Not all IPL treatments are created equally and the technology used around your eyes is of utmost importance to promote safety.

Can I use eye drops?

Treatment of Dry Eye Disease stretches much beyond just the use of an eye drop. Eye drops do not treat the root cause of dry eye and oftentimes, overuse can result in worsening of your condition, unbeknownst to you.

Dr Kataria OD FAAO works to find the root cause of your dry eyes and then creates a custom tailored treatment plan specific only to your particular case. No case is necessarily the same and no treatment is the same, even for family members. It is important that you seek out an expert in the field to assist in your treatments. Our doctor also personally performs all of the treatments, ensuring that all treatments are being administered appropriately and safely.
