At Avant Eyes Optometry we provide full-scope comprehensive and medical eye care services. We utilize advanced diagnostic technology such as Ocular Coherence Tomography, Corneal Topography and Meibography to assist in early detection of ocular pathologies such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, keratoconus and ocular surface disease. Dr. Kataria is residency-trained in diseases of the eye and is passionate about educating patients on preventative eye care.
COMPREHENSIVE EYE EXAMS
Did you know that diabetes can be diagnosed through an eye exam? Comprehensive eye care goes well beyond prescribing glasses and contact lenses. During your comprehensive eye exam at Avant Eyes Optometry, you can expect a thorough assessment of your vision, refractive error, color vision, binocular status, eye muscle movement, neurological function and a detailed assessment of the cornea, retina, optic nerve and macula health. We utilize unparalleled premier technology to assist in early detection of eye disease such as glaucoma and cataracts.
The American Optometric Association recommends frequent eye exams, even for those individuals who do not have any symptoms of vision loss.
Diseases such as glaucoma can lurk in the optic nerve undiagnosed and unknown to patients until permanent vision loss has occurred. Thus, comprehensive eye exams are a form of preventative care.
MEDICAL EYE CARE
With specialized training in ocular disease, our practice utilizes advanced technology and a thorough ocular health assessment to care for patients with eye emergencies such as red eyes, chemical injuries and foreign bodies. We diagnose, treat and manage advanced dry eye disease, glaucoma, diabetes, macular degeneration and diseases of the cornea, such as keratoconus. Systemic diseases such as stroke, rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis can present with ocular manifestations, all of which can be detected and managed at Avant Eyes Optometry. Our office ensures all findings are appropriately communicated to your entire healthcare team immediately after your exam.

DRY EYE THERAPY
Ever heard of the “Zoom Boom?” Throughout the past 2 years, symptoms of dry eye disease are more prevalent than ever owing to the increased use of digital devices. Symptoms include blurred vision, tearing, burning, eye redness, itching, light sensitivity and foreign body sensation. Avant Eyes Optometry utilizes advanced diagnostic imaging to understand the severity of your disease and works to implement a treatment plan catered to you.
During a Dry Eye Consultation, we take a systematic approach to understanding and treating your dry eye, including implementing modifications to your medications, skin, diet, systemic health, behavior, environment, water intake, lid hygiene and eye/face anatomy.
We prefer a holistic approach to treatment with a combination of at-home and in-office treatments. Our goal is to provide you a comprehensive understanding of factors that contribute to your dry eye and empower you with treatments to provide long term relief of your symptoms.
MYOPIA CONTROL
Has your child’s glasses prescription been increasing at every yearly visit? Have you wondered how to slow it down? Have you wondered what the long term implications and consequences are of a progressing prescription?
The increasing concerns over myopia progression are a constant topic of discussion and research in the eyecare community. Myopia is a disease process whereby the eye elongates in childhood, and the glasses/contact lens prescription increases periodically. With this increase comes a possible risk of developing retinal detachments and maculopathy.
New technologies are developing that allow opportunity to slow down the progression of your child’s glasses prescription at the right age. Treatment modalities include behavioral modifications, glasses, soft contact lenses and eye drops. Schedule a consultation for more information on options right for your child.
CONTACT LENSES
Contact lenses are medical devices that enhance your vision based on your visual needs. Whether that’s a simple daily contact lens for a regular cornea to an irregular cornea from trauma or surgery, our office will provide a comprehensive contact lens assessment including a map of your cornea to determine your best contact lens fitting. Annual contact lens exams are important to assess the health of your cornea, as often corneal degenerative disease can go undetected in the early stages if not examined thoroughly.
When traditional glasses and/or soft contact lenses cannot improve vision, specialty contact lenses may be recommended. Utilizing advanced diagnostic imaging, we provide evaluations for specialty hard contact lenses for patients with irregular corneas, corneal degenerative disorders and post-surgical correction.
LASIK AND CATARACT SURGICAL CO-MANAGEMENT
Are you a candidate for LASIK surgery? Is LASIK right for you?
During your LASIK Consult, we perform a comprehensive eye examination including a thorough manifest refraction, dilation and wavefront analysis of your cornea. We assess your candidacy by a stable prescription, healthy eye structures and anatomy, and sufficient corneal thickness for the surgery to be performed. If you are not a candidate for LASIK, there may be other options that provide laser vision correction. Ask us for a LASIK Consult.
A cataract is a normal part of the aging process in the eye. If we live long enough, we will all develop cataracts. Cataracts can blur vision and reduce contrast sensitivity. Fortunately, cataract surgery has progressed over the recent decades to become one of the simplest and most commonly performed eye surgeries. At Avant Eyes Optometry, you will receive a comprehensive eye exam including a thorough assessment of your cataracts, diagnostic testing, whether you are a candidate for surgery, which type(s) of lens implants are most appropriate, and a custom-tailored approach to surgical co-management that fits your needs.
Treating any dry eye disease prior to surgery is of utmost importance to optimize a successful outcome. If you have risk for or existing dry eye disease, we will always recommend treatment prior to surgery.
Glaucoma is a slow, progressive disease of the optic nerve. When the eye pressure is too high for an individual eye, it can cause damage to the optic nerve and therefore, cause the patient to start losing peripheral vision. When the disease is in its mild and moderate stages, it is typically a “silent disease,” meaning that patients are often asymptomatic. When diagnosed in the severe stages of the disease, oftentimes, irreversible vision loss has occurred.
Therefore, it is important that every patient is evaluated yearly with a dilated fundus examination and intra-ocular pressure check. At Avant Eyes Optometry, these tests are offered at every examination.
Age-Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD) is a disease of the central vision. It can cause a reduction in vision, or distortion of central vision. At Avant Eyes Optometry, we use advanced diagnostic technology to detect early changes in your macula to determine your risk for developing ARMD. Dr. Kataria will review your testing and treatment plan with you. She will recommend behavioral and dietary changes to those patients at risk.
